ENGLISH BOOK
When
Jack Knight returns from the past, he finds a letter from
Sadie Falk, begging him to give up being
Starman and come to San Francisco with her, telling him that she is pregnant
with his child, a girl. Jack realizes that this is what he too wants and
decides to make his goodbyes. He first visits
Ralph Dibny and
Sue Dibny telling them goodbye. They tell him they intend to stay in
Opal City but add that fate has a way of pulling them to parts far and wide. Next, he considers saying goodbye to
Black Condor,
but instead just watches him soar over the city reflecting on the
respect he has for the hero he has become. Next, Jack goes to say his
goodbyes to
Bobo Bennetti.
Bennetti advises Jack that the time has come for Jack to work on
himself, because Opal City is in fine hands. Bennetti will stay and work
for the good of the city. Then, Jack goes to visit
Charity. She intends to marry
Mason O'Dare.
She endorses Jack giving up Starman for the time being, telling him
that he may not be done with Starman permanently. Then, he goes to visit
the
O'Dare Family at Opal City Police headquarters. He learns that
Clarence O'Dare has been appointed the Police Commissioner of Opal City and is
responsible for hiring both Bobo Bennetti and Black Condor as
consultants.
Hope O'Dare is going to take a break in Mexico and ask
the Shade out on a date when she returns. Mason O’Dare is going to marry Charity.
However, just as it seems all will be well, Mason notices a
sniper taking aim at Jack. He pushes Jack out of the way and takes an arrow in
the chest. The arrow hits an artery, and he begins to bleed out. His
fiancé Charity is instantly aware of this but is shocked when she is
reassured by the ghost of
John Zatara. Zatara once dated Charity.
[1] He revives Mason as a wedding gift to the couple. Jack later stops by to collect his son,
Theo Knight, from Tony, the boyfriend of
Mikaal Tomas,
who has been babysitting him. Tony asks Jack to talk to Mikaal, as the
two have been drifting apart since their return from space. Mikaal wants
to work things out, and is encouraged by Jack, who now regards him as a
brother. He also visits Shade, who vows to track down the Spider, who
is the obvious culprit for the assassination attempt given the choice of
weapon. Shade also shows Jack his home, giving him an Opal rose to
remind him of the city. In return Jack uses his cosmic rod to purge the
Shade of
Culp's shadow, a trick he learned in space. Jack then passes on his
Cosmic Staff to
Courtney Whitmore,
the Star-Spangled Kid. He makes this choice because he has seen how
wise she becomes in the future but tells her not to take on the role of
Stargirl until she feels ready. Jack then packs up his stuff and leaves
Opal to start a new life and a new family in San Francisco, happy that
he has left everything in order.
